COLDEMAR in Nuquí

8/31/2026

This week, COLDEMAR traveled to Nuquí to launch its first research project, which will examine the marine and coastal socio-ecological impacts of the 2026–2027 El Niño event.

🌊 This week COLDEMAR travelled to Nuquí to launch its first research project, which will address the coastal socio-ecological impacts of El Niño phenomenon 2026–2027. In conversations with the Board of Los Riscales General Community Council, representatives of the Local Community Councils and members of the Planning Committee of the Gulf of Tribugá–Cabo Corrientes Regional Integrated Management District (DRMI), we received valuable input and recommendations that will help us strengthen and refine our workplan.

The project will be carried out in close partnership between Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) GmbH, #INCIMAR, local communities, the Universidad de Antioquia, The University of Freiburg and BioGeCo. Through this collaborative effort, funded by the #BMFTR and the #ZMT, we aim to generate knowledge that will contribute to the design of strategies for the sustainable use of marine and coastal biodiversity and climate change adaptation in the Colombian Pacific. 🌎
